AKIKO ANDO
Leesaya is pleased to present an exhibition of new works by Akiko Ando. Ando was born in Ibaraki Prefecture in 1987 and graduated from the Department of Design at Tokyo Polytechnic University. She makes fine art painting the focal point of her practice while also working in other fields, including illustration and cover art for books and albums. In her paintings Ando employs watercolor, oil, and collage to construct layered pictorial spaces that suggest the accumulation of time and memory. Cultivating the fleeting emotions and subtle atmospheres that emerge out of familiar objects and scenes, these works reflect on quiet moments of intimacy and the nature of personal time and relationships.
LEESAYA
Leesaya was established in 2019 to nurture young artists who seek innovative modes of expression. The gallery collaborates with creators working across a wide range of practices to explore new possibilities of contemporary art.
