YOSHIHIRO SUDA
Yoshihiro Suda was born in 1969 in Yamanashi and lives and works in Tokyo. He is known for making highly detailed, hand-carved sculptures of flowers and plants, which he uses to create spatial installations. For his self-organized debut solo show in 1993, “Ginza Weed Theory,” Suda installed his works in parking lots in Tokyo’s Ginza district. He has since held solo exhibitions at institutions including the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo (1999); the Art Institute of Chicago (2003); and the National Museum of Art, Osaka (2006). An exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura & Hayama, in Kanagawa Prefecture is scheduled to open at the Hayama location in March 2027. This solo exhibition at Gallery Koyanagi, Suda’s first in three years, will focus mainly on new works and will be accompanied by a monograph.
GALLERY KOYANAGI
Gallery Koyanagi opened in Ginza in 1995 and relaunched with a new gallery space designed by Hiroshi Sugimoto in 2016. Gallery Koyanagi represents Japanese and international contemporary artists including Michaël Borremans, Sophie Calle, Marlene Dumas, Mark Manders, Christian Marclay, Thomas Ruff, Yoshihiro Suda, Hiroshi Sugimoto, and Tabaimo.
