Ginza
nca | nichido contemporary art first opened its doors in 2002 as the contemporary branch of the long-established Ginza-based galerie nichido. Its program focuses on up-and-coming Japanese and international artists, taking over galerie nichido’s pioneering spirit which, since its establishment in 1928, has promoted culture through innovative exhibitions and projects; it was the first gallery to introduce Western painting in Japan.

In addition, following the opening of galerie nichido Taipei in 2015, the gallery has broadened its focus to promote Asia’s contemporary art scene.

"Dreams Rise From the River Surface"
October 29 – December 4
nca | nichido contemporary art is pleased to present Taiwanese artist Pin-Ling Huang’s solo exhibition “Dreams Rise From the River Surface,” which will feature new works together with a large-scale piece shown at the Hong-gah Museum in Taipei earlier this year.

Deeply weaved in lyricism, Huang’s landscapes are characterized by small elements that tell us of the artist’s memories and experiences. These fantastic sceneries are born from a new awareness the artist developed of the relationship between herself and the exterior world (society) during her years abroad. The images bring to life the many sketches Huang creates, traveling back and forth between past and present, and finally, overlapped on the canvas, blossoming into a unique landscape through the brush’s movements and gentle textures. The smallest change in our perspective or stance brings to light new visual possibilities, striking our emotional chords with both feelings of nostalgia and pleasure.
