MISA SHIN GALLERY opened in November 2010 in Shirokane, Tokyo, a central neighborhood and historically industrial area that still contained small factories. In August 2018, the gallery relocated to Minami-Azabu, a quiet residential area that is also home to many embassies.

Since its founding, the gallery has presented cutting-edge exhibitions, introducing both local and international artists who express themselves through conceptual approaches. Besides presenting exhibitions by globally recognized artists, the gallery aims to give mid-career artists their rightful position in the history of art. The gallery also features and promotes Japanese Conceptual art from the 1960s and 70s, offering a wealth of new insight and an analysis of art history from Postwar Japan, giving the artists opportunities to exhibit and simultaneously introducing them to institutions and collectors worldwide. One of the gallery’s further objectives is to seek a relationship between art and other disciplines, such as architecture, theater, and music.

In addition to gallery exhibitions, MISA SHIN GALLERY actively offers consultation to corporate art collections and art programs in Japan.

Exhibition Information
Arata Isozaki: Form and Spirit
November 2–December 24
MISA SHIN GALLERY will present a solo exhibition by the architect Arata Isozaki. The show will feature drawings and prints that abstract and visualize the basic concepts of the buildings he has designed, including his most important work in the 1970s and 1990s, like the Museum of Modern Art, Gunma, and the Art Tower Mito, respectively. These works will be exhibited together with watercolors and drawings of landscapes from Isozaki’s travels. The forms and spirit of his activities raise questions that transcend eras and genres—not only in architecture, but also in philosophy, art, design, and theater.
